Flying standby on a buddy pass can be the end of a friendship and can cost someone their job if the pass traveler does not know and fully understand the rules of flying standby. The price might be right but done wrong a buddy pass can end up costing you more than buying an actual ticket.
The cost of standing by day after day not only takes a toll on you mentally and physically it takes a toll on your pocket book. Extra hotel nights, meals, getting to and from the hotel to the airport each day and lost hours at work while you standby at the airport.
Trust me, 4 days standing by and not getting on your flight at the Rome Airport is not my idea of a fun Italian Vacation.
As we said earlier buddy pass can be the end of a friendship, if the buddy pass rider does not fully understand the advantages and the disadvantages of riding on a pass. Check the airfare, it might be a lot less in the long run to spend the extra $$ and buy the ticket.
CNN Traveler did an article this week on flying standby. Written for the general public, it has some valid points that your buddy pass riders should consider when asking to travel on a buddy pass.Click here to read the store from CNN Traveler.
