If I say “Name me cities and places to visit when you go to Australia”, I bet you say Sydney, Melbourne and the Great Barrier Reef.
But would you think of Adelaide?
Would you even think of going to a place called Kangaroo Island?
On my first trip to Australia I got lucky and the trip took us to Adelaide. It was right before their Grand Prix and the town was alive with excitement.
Adelaide is not nearly as large and spread out at Sydney and Melbourne and that makes getting around easy and cheap.
Also if you are into nature, Adelaide is the city nearest to Kangaroo Island. Kangaroo Island should be on your “Absolutely Must Dos” when you visit Australia.
Kangaroo Island for those who know nothing about it, is the 3rd largest island in Australia and tis home to a ridiculous number of kangaroos, seals, sea lions, koalas and dolphins. Rooms are plentiful and very reasonably priced so spend for a night or two and make the most of your visit to this area.
On my trip to Adelaide we got to go to Kangaroo Island and hand feed the Kangaroos and see the sea lions sun themselves on the beach. It was awesome!
The Mercury, a newspaper in Australia, recently did a story on Adelaide. Check it out and then add Adelaide and Kangaroo Island to your itinerary on your next visit to Australia.
