Frontier Airlines revealed a huge route expansion Tuesday. The company says it will add 21 new destinations and 85 new routes to the carrier’s network. The expansion means that the number of cities on Frontier’s route map will swell to 82 by next summer.
The airline will also add dozens of non-stop flights between other cities that it already serves.
Frontier’s biggest expansion will come in Denver, the carrier’s hometown and biggest hub. Frontier now appears to be refocusing on its Denver hub after several years of emphasizing growth elsewhere. Frontier is adding more than 20 new destinations to its Denver flight schedule, that will allow it to funnel more connecting passengers through the airport.
Frontier seems to be trying to add connectivity for passengers throughout its network. The company says its total number of routes – including connections – will increase to “well over 1,000 by summer 2018.” That, the carrier says, is “more than double the current number of total routes.”
Looking at just the nonstop routes, Frontier’s latest expansion would give it 314 nonstop routes by next summer — “nearly double” what’s available in the company’s current schedule.
