October 1, 2026 — Aeroméxico (AM) flights are operating normally after its pilots’ union agreed to push back a strike deadline by up to 45 days. The pilots rejected the airline’s latest pay offer, so the threat has been delayed, not removed.
What happened
The Asociación Sindical de Pilotos Aviadores de México (ASPA), which represents about 1,632 Aeroméxico pilots, had set a strike deadline for the turn of the month (reported as September 30 / October 1). Instead of walking out, the union and the airline agreed to extend the deadline by up to 45 days and keep talking. Reports point to a new deadline around November 12; the exact date is TBA, and a deal could come sooner.
ASPA turned down a raise of about 3.26%, arguing that pilots have lost buying power since the pandemic. The union wants a complete proposal covering four areas: work schedules and rest, salary, benefits, and social security. ASPA General Secretary Jesús Ortiz Álvarez said the two sides are “still far from achieving the objectives” the union has set.
Aeroméxico said its domestic and international network was not affected and that it remains committed to reaching a deal through dialogue.

What it means for non-revs
- No disruption right now. Aeroméxico is flying its full schedule, so standby plans for October are unaffected by labor action.
- Mark mid-November as a risk window. If you’re riding Aeroméxico on a pass, ZED or interline ticket, try not to have your return depend on AM in the days around the new deadline. Have a backup carrier for each leg.
- Watch for a last-minute rush. If a strike looks likely, revenue passengers will rebook early and loads on other Mexico carriers will climb, making standby harder across the market.
- Follow ASPA and Aeroméxico updates as November approaches; a deal could end the risk sooner.
