October 2, 2026 — Update to our October 1 story. The train drivers’ strike at Norwegian operator Vy, which began September 18, is still on. Vy confirmed on October 2 that the strike widens on Monday, October 5, and its updated tables show every train cancelled on the R14 Asker–Kongsvinger line on Tuesday, October 6.
What changed since yesterday
- R14 line: Vy now lists 100% cancellations on R14 (Asker–Kongsvinger) for Tuesday, October 6.
- Other lines: cancellation rates vary by day on lines in eastern and western Norway. Vy’s strike page has the daily figures.
- No travel guarantee: Vy says its Travel Guarantee does not apply during the strike and it is not providing replacement transport. Legal rail passenger rights still apply.
- Journey planner: it shows only trains that will run, and is updated about two days ahead.
- No settlement: we found no report of a deal or of government intervention. The union is the Norwegian Locomotive Drivers’ Union (NLF). End date: TBA.
What it means for airline travelers
- Check the planner two days out, and again on the day. If a train does not appear in Vy’s journey planner, it is not running.
- No replacement buses. You will need your own backup: an airport coach, a regional bus or a taxi.
- Getting to Oslo Airport: confirm that your train is running before you rely on it, and leave extra time.
- Refunds: ask Vy for a refund if your train is cancelled. Keep receipts for other transport in case you can claim under passenger-rights rules.
- Standby travelers: do not plan a same-day train-to-flight connection on affected lines.
