October 6, 2026 — Argentina’s state workers’ union began a national walkout at noon on Tuesday with a march in central Buenos Aires. Separately, subway line A stops from 7 pm. A larger union march follows on Thursday, October 8.

The details

  • State workers: The union ATE called a national public-sector walkout from 12 noon on October 6, with a march to the Palace of Justice. It is protesting a court ruling on the sale of rural land to foreigners. The end time was not stated (TBA).
  • What is affected: Ministries, public agencies and state companies. Counter service may be reduced or halted.
  • What runs: Buses, trains and the rest of the subway run normally. The reports we read do not mention any effect on airports or flights.
  • Subway line A: The union AGTSYP (Metrodelegados) is striking on line A, between Plaza de Mayo and San Pedrito, from 7 pm on October 6 until the end of service. The dispute is over wage deductions by the operator Emova.
  • Traffic: Expect disruption around the courthouse in the Tribunales area.

Dates ahead

Date Action Transport impact
Tue, Oct 6, from noon ATE national walkout and march Public offices; traffic near Tribunales
Tue, Oct 6, from 7 pm Subway line A strike Line A closed until end of service
Thu, Oct 8, 3:30 pm CGT march to the Industry Secretariat, near Plaza de Mayo No transport stoppage announced
Thu, Oct 15 CGT joins a university march TBA
General strike CGT says before year-end Date TBA

The union federation CGT has ruled out a general strike for now.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Flights are not affected by today’s actions, based on the reports we read.
  • Government counters: Expect slow or closed service at public offices on October 6.
  • Getting around Buenos Aires: Avoid Tribunales on Tuesday afternoon and the Plaza de Mayo area on Thursday afternoon. Use other subway lines or a taxi on Tuesday evening.
  • Airport transfers: Leave extra time if your route to Aeroparque or Ezeiza crosses the city center during a march.
  • Watch for a general strike date. A general strike could affect flights, so standby travelers should check again before any late-year trip.
