October 7, 2026 — Carnival Cruise Line now requires guests ages 15 to 20 to sleep within three cabins of their guardian, and group bookings need one adult chaperone for every five minors. The rules apply to new bookings made from October 1, 2026, Cruise Hive and Cruise.Blog report.
Carnival Corporation’s namesake brand counts anyone under 21 on embarkation day as a minor. Minors must travel with a relative or guardian aged 25 or older. Carnival gave no reason for the update, and the reports do not say whether bookings made before October 1 are affected.
What changed for under-21s
| Rule | Before | From October 1, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Cabin location, ages 18–20 | Anywhere on the ship | No more than three cabins from the guardian (the limit now covers ages 15–20) |
| Ages 14 and under | Same or connecting cabin | Unchanged |
| Group chaperones | One adult per eight minors | One adult per five minors |
Two exceptions remain for ages 18 to 20: legally married couples, and U.S. military or Canadian National Defence personnel. Both need documentation.

Carnival Adventure heads to Seattle in 2028
Cruise Industry News reports that Carnival Adventure will make its U.S. debut from Seattle for May to September 2028. The 2,600-guest ship will sail seven-night Alaska cruises to Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Victoria. It also has nine-night Carnival Journeys sailings with Sitka in September 2028 and a 16-night Hawaii and Canada round trip. Carnival Spirit and Carnival Legend will sail from Seattle, Long Beach and San Francisco from April to September 2028. Carnival Adventure is expected back in Australia for winter 2028–29. Exact sailing dates: TBA in the report.
No change on Carnival Spirit since yesterday’s edition: the ship is still due in Seattle on October 9, one day late.
What it means for airline travelers
- Families with 18- to 20-year-olds: you can no longer put them in a cheaper cabin on another deck. Book all cabins together and early, because the three-cabin limit is harder to meet on a full ship.
- Groups: school, team and reunion groups now need one adult per five minors. Recount your chaperones before adding names to a new booking.
- Bookings made before October 1: not addressed in the reports. Ask Carnival or your interline agent before changing anything.
- Casino smoke: pick by ship, then check the homeport. Carnival Firenze, Carnival Venezia and Carnival Dream all move in 2027, which changes the airport you fly into.
- Seattle 2028: Seattle–Tacoma (SEA) is the airport. If you are flying standby, arrive at least a day early in the peak Alaska months.
- Interline rates: none of the reports mention travel-industry rates or eligibility.
