October 7, 2026 — AIDA Cruises will take AIDAperla out of service from April 2 to May 2, 2027 and AIDAprima from April 21 to May 21, 2028 for its AIDA Evolution refit program, Cruise Industry News reports.

The German brand of Carnival Corporation is adding restaurants, bars, family areas and extra cabins to both ships. This is a new item, separate from the winter 2028–29 booking opening covered yesterday.

Drydock schedule

Ship Out of service Shipyard First cruise back
AIDAperla April 2 – May 2, 2027 Chantier Naval de Marseille, France May 2, 2027: 10-day Mediterranean Highlights, round trip from Mallorca
AIDAprima April 21 – May 21, 2028 TBA May 21, 2028: 7-day Pearls of the Mediterranean, round trip from Mallorca

AIDAperla’s first cruise calls at Corsica, Sardinia, Naples, La Spezia, Civitavecchia for Rome, and Barcelona. AIDAprima’s calls at Marseille, Civitavecchia, La Spezia and Barcelona.

What is being added

  • Dining and bars: Best Burger @ Sea, East Fusion (Asian, with hotpot and Korean barbecue), Teppanyaki Asia Grill, Art Bar, Panorama Lounge & Bar, Chilli Out Bar, and a rebuilt Spray Bar with an LED wall.
  • Cabins: new interior, sea-view and balcony cabins, plus refreshed design, USB ports at the beds and lit bathroom mirrors in existing ones.
  • Family areas: a Four Elements activity deck, a Fun Park Air climbing area, minigolf on deck 16, and larger teen and kids’ spaces.

The cost was not disclosed.

What it means for airline travelers

  • No sailings during the drydock windows. If you had April 2027 on AIDAperla or late April to mid-May 2028 on AIDAprima in mind, pick other dates.
  • Both ships restart from Palma de Mallorca (PMI). Palma has heavy seasonal service from Germany and the rest of Europe. From North America it means a connection.
  • First cruises after a drydock can slip. Shipyard work sometimes overruns. Keep flights flexible for the May 2, 2027 and May 21, 2028 departures.
  • Language: AIDA is a German-language product. Interline rates are not mentioned in the report.
