October 8, 2026 — American Airlines said on October 8 it will install Starlink Wi-Fi on its entire mainline fleet of more than 1,030 aircraft, starting in early 2027. Separately, Brazil’s antitrust tribunal approved American’s $100 million investment in Azul.
What happened
Starlink. American’s earlier plan, announced in May, covered only its Airbus narrowbodies, more than 500 aircraft. The new plan adds more than 400 Boeing 737s and more than 130 Boeing 777s and 787s. Installations begin in early 2027. A completion date and pricing are TBA. View from the Wing reports that American Eagle regional jets are not included.
Azul. On October 7, Brazil’s competition tribunal, Cade, unanimously approved American’s investment in Azul, worth about 8% of the airline. It rejected an appeal by Abra Group, the parent of GOL and Avianca. The approval carries conditions: American’s board representative must be kept away from competitively sensitive topics such as pricing, and Azul must tell Cade about related future deals. Azul says it will then put its commercial agreements with American into effect, including codeshare, loyalty links and lounge access. Start dates are TBA.
Flight attendants. APFA says arbitration of its grievance over sit rig pay for reserve flight attendants is set for October 14 and 15 at the Sheraton DFW Airport Hotel. Members in good standing may attend.
Hurricane Isaias. American has a waiver for travel on October 9 and 10 at Destin–Fort Walton Beach, Gulfport–Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans, Panama City, Pensacola and Tampa, for tickets bought by October 6.

What it means for non-revs
- Starlink changes nothing at the gate, but from 2027 fast Wi-Fi on 777s and 787s will make it easier to re-list or rebook mid-flight when a connection is in doubt.
- The Azul approval does not change staff travel today. None of the reports mention pass or ZED arrangements between American and Azul. A codeshare could add American-coded seats within Brazil later.
- Avoid American’s Gulf Coast and New Orleans flights on October 9 and 10, and expect fuller flights on the days either side as waiver passengers move.
- Reserve flight attendants should watch for the arbitration outcome; no ruling date has been given.
