October 8, 2026 — Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a firm order for four Airbus A350-900s and six A321neos in Dhaka on the evening of October 7. It is the state-owned airline’s first Airbus order.
What happened
Airbus confirmed the order in a press release the same day. Biman’s board chairman, Rumee A Hossain, signed for the airline. The value was not disclosed.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2030, according to Bangladesh’s state news agency and AeroTime. Airbus’s release gives no schedule. The A350s have Rolls-Royce engines; the engine choice for the A321neo was not named.
Biman plans to use the A350s on routes to the Middle East, Europe, North America and Australia, and the A321neos on regional and medium-haul Asian routes.
| Aircraft | Number | Planned use |
|---|---|---|
| Airbus A350-900 | 4 | Long-haul |
| Airbus A321neo | 6 | Regional and medium-haul Asia |
The order comes on top of 25 Boeing aircraft that Biman committed to earlier in 2026, which brings its total pipeline to 35 aircraft. Its current fleet is 19 aircraft.
What it means for non-revs
- There is no near-term effect on standby travel. The first Airbus deliveries are not expected before 2030.
- Longer term, Biman’s capacity nearly triples on paper, which should mean more seats on routes between Bangladesh, the Gulf and Europe.
- For enthusiasts, it makes Biman a mixed Airbus and Boeing widebody operator for the first time.
