October 16, 2026 — From October 15, Air Canada charges a CA$30 fee per passenger, plus tax, for new bookings made by phone with a Contact Centre agent.
What changed
The fee is non-refundable, even if the ticket is cancelled later, and it shows as a separate line on the receipt. Because it is charged per passenger, a family of four booking by phone pays CA$120 plus tax. Air Canada says its online tools shorten phone wait times and leave agents free for customers who need personal help.
| Situation | Fee applies? |
|---|---|
| New booking by phone with an agent | Yes — CA$30 + tax per passenger |
| Aeroplan reward booking by phone | Yes (Aeroplan phone bookings already had a fee) |
| Booking on aircanada.com or the Air Canada app | No |
| Help with a delayed, cancelled or disrupted trip | No |
| Changes or help with an existing booking | No booking fee; normal fare-rule change fees still apply |
| Customers with accessibility needs | No — exempt |
| Booking through a travel agent | Agent’s own fees apply |
If an online booking fails, the Contact Centre (1-888-247-2262) can finish it, but the fee may still apply. Air Canada has not said whether group bookings are covered (TBA).
What it means for non-revs
- This fee is for paid tickets and Aeroplan rewards. The sources do not mention any change to Air Canada employee or interline pass travel.
- If you or your family are buying a positive-space ticket on Air Canada, book it on the website or app to avoid the fee.
