KOZHIKODE, India — October 16, 2026. Twenty-two Gulf flights were cancelled at Kozhikode International Airport (CCJ, also known as Karipur) on Friday as the security situation around Riyadh continued to disrupt routes between Kerala and Saudi Arabia, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

What happened

  • Twelve inbound flights from the Gulf and 10 outbound flights from Kozhikode were cancelled on October 16.
  • Airlines affected: Air India Express, IndiGo, Saudia, Flynas, Air Arabia and Akasa Air.
  • Destinations affected: Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Bahrain, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah.
  • Elsewhere in Kerala, Cochin (COK) reported four cancellations (two Akasa Air, one Air India Express, one Flynas). Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) reported none.
  • How long the cancellations will continue: TBA. Passengers were told to contact their airline for rebooking or refunds.

Cancelled departures from Kozhikode, October 16

Airline To Scheduled (local)
Air Arabia Ras Al Khaimah 3:30 am
Air India Express Dammam 8:35 am
Flynas Riyadh 9:10 am
Saudia Riyadh 9:55 am
Air India Express Al Ain 10:00 am
Flynas Riyadh 4:05 pm
Akasa Air Jeddah 6:45 pm
IndiGo Jeddah 6:50 pm
Air India Express Riyadh 8:15 pm
Air India Express Bahrain 11:05 pm

What it means for non-revs

  • Kerala–Gulf standby is a long shot right now. Stranded passengers from 22 cancelled flights will be rebooked onto whatever operates next, so expect full flights to and from Kozhikode and Cochin.
  • Routings via the UAE and Bahrain are also hit. Cancellations reached Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah and Bahrain, not just Saudi points, so do not assume a Gulf connection will be open.
  • Check day of travel. Cancellations are being decided day by day; confirm your flight is operating before heading to the airport.
