October 16, 2026 — World Voyager, the 200-guest expedition ship owned by Portugal’s Mystic Cruises, is in drydock for a stabilizer replacement before it heads south for the Antarctic season. The 2020-built ship sails for Quark Expeditions in winter and for Atlas Ocean Voyages in summer.
What happened
Mystic chief executive Mário Ferreira told Cruise Industry News the ship “required an emergency stop before heading to Antarctica” after a stabilizer showed deficiencies. It is at the Lisnave shipyard in Setúbal, Portugal, where engineers from SKF in Germany are helping to fit the replacement. Ferreira said the work should take about a week.
| Milestone | Date |
|---|---|
| Drydock repair (Setúbal, Portugal) | About one week, under way now |
| Repositioning voyage to Antarctica begins | Week of October 19, 2026 |
| Antarctic expedition season (departures from Argentina) | Early November 2026 |
No cancelled sailings were reported.
What it means for airline travelers
- Booked on an early-season World Voyager trip? Nothing has been cancelled, but watch for messages from Quark Expeditions or your agent in case timing slips.
- Antarctic trips start in Argentina. These itineraries begin with a long-haul flight; arrive at least a day or two early, and more if you are flying standby, because the ship will not wait.
- No change to interline or travel-industry cruise rates was mentioned.
