Airline advisories
- Air India and Air India Express say the cyclone may affect flights to and from Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. They ask passengers to check flight status online and to allow extra time to reach the airport because road travel may be affected.
- No fee waivers were mentioned in the reports.
The storm
- India’s weather office (IMD) expected Cyclone Arnab to cross the coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam, by Wednesday forenoon, with maximum sustained winds of 125–135 km/h gusting to 150 km/h.
- Andhra Pradesh is on high alert, with evacuations planned. Several trains have also been cancelled.
What it means for non-revs
- Vijayawada is effectively shut to IndiGo on October 28. With all 12 IndiGo flights and other services cancelled, there is nothing to list for on most of the day’s schedule.
- Expect full flights once service returns. Passengers from two days of cancellations will be rebooked first, so standby chances will be poor on the first flights back. Allow several days of flexibility if you must travel.
- Ground options are limited too. Roads may be affected and several trains are cancelled, so driving or taking the train from Hyderabad or Chennai may not be a reliable workaround.
- Check before you go. Resumption is TBA; check IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and Fly91 flight status before heading to the airport.
