- Itineraries: “Rhine Getaway,” “Grand European Tour,” “Danube Waltz and Tulips & Windmills” and “Christmas Market” sailings
- Maiden voyage date: TBA
- Godmother: TBA
Viking’s growth
Viking has 17 more river ships on order for delivery by 2028, 11 more ocean ships by 2032 and two more expedition ships by 2031. With those orders, the company expects to operate 114 river ships in 2028 and 28 ocean and expedition ships in 2032.
What it means for airline travelers
- More Christmas Market capacity. A new ship on the Rhine and Danube adds space on Viking’s popular holiday sailings. If you are flying to Europe in late November or December, remember that flights at holiday time can be full, so build a buffer day before embarkation if you are on standby.
- Check your start and end cities. Before you book flights, confirm with Viking where your chosen itinerary begins and ends, since river cruises do not always return to the city where they started.
- The story did not mention any travel-industry or interline rates.
