November 3, 2026 — Royal Caribbean’s new Icon-class ship Legend of the Seas has finished its first season in Europe and is crossing to its winter home in Fort Lauderdale, where it will be formally named on Veterans Day, November 11, 2026.
The details
- The Meyer Turku-built ship spent its debut season on seven-night Western Mediterranean cruises from Spain and Italy, with calls such as Marseille, La Spezia and Palma de Mallorca.
- It left Barcelona on October 29, 2026 on a 13-night repositioning, calling at Palma, Málaga and Cádiz before a nine-night crossing to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.
- The naming ceremony is set for November 11, 2026 in Fort Lauderdale. The godmother is retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Lori J. Robinson.
- For the winter the ship will sail six- to eight-night Caribbean and Bahamas cruises, all calling at Perfect Day at CocoCay, plus ports such as Oranjestad (Aruba), Willemstad (Curaçao) and Cozumel (Mexico). Individual sailing dates: see Royal Caribbean (TBA in this report).
- The ship returns to Europe in May 2027 for a second Western Mediterranean summer.
What it means for airline travelers
- Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is the closest airport to Port Everglades; Miami (MIA) is a short drive farther. Fly in the day before, particularly if you are on standby, as Florida flights are busy through the winter season.
- Veterans Day week may bring extra traffic around Port Everglades on November 11.
- For the 2027 Europe season, Barcelona (BCN) and Rome (FCO) are the usual gateways for Western Mediterranean cruises from Spain and Italy.
- No travel-industry or interline rates were mentioned.
