November 3, 2026 — The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince issued a security alert on November 2 about ongoing security operations near the Tabarre and Croix-des-Bouquets neighborhoods of the Haitian capital. U.S. government personnel have been told to avoid the area.
What the embassy says
- Where: Tabarre and Croix-des-Bouquets, Port-au-Prince.
- When: Operations were ongoing as of November 2; end date TBA.
- Advice: Avoid the area and monitor local media for updates.
- Advisory level: The embassy’s page shows Haiti at Level 4: Do Not Travel, because of crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest and limited health care. We could not load the State Department’s advisory page today to confirm its date.
- Contacts: U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince +509-2229-8000 or acspap@state.gov; from the U.S. and Canada, 1-888-407-4747, or 1-202-501-4444 from abroad.
What it means for airline travelers
- Haiti remains at the State Department’s highest level. Non-essential trips, including pass trips, should be postponed.
- If you must travel for family or work, arrange secure ground transport before arrival and avoid the Tabarre and Croix-des-Bouquets areas.
- Do not count on standby travel to get out quickly: if the situation worsens, flights can be cancelled with little notice and seats can disappear. Hold a confirmed return.
- Enroll in STEP (U.S. citizens) or Registration of Canadians Abroad, and check whether your travel insurance covers a destination under a Level 4 / avoid-all-travel advisory — many policies do not.
