November 4, 2026 — Update: The residential cruise ship Villa Vie Odyssey has left Cambodia for Singapore after its lender took possession, and a U.S. law firm says it is looking into how the ship’s cabins were sold.
What changed
Villa Vie Residences stopped operating the ship on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, when residents were sent ashore in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. New this week:
- Lender in control: Cruise Hive reported on November 3 that the lender, Sagar Capital, has taken possession and the ship has sailed from Sihanoukville toward Singapore. Residents’ attempt to buy the ship was turned down, and the ship could go to auction. Villa Vie says, “No sale has been scheduled.”
- Bankruptcy plans: Villa Vie has said it plans to file for Chapter 11. Cruise Hive puts the cost at about $3 million for the first 60 days, and the company calls it a 30- to 90-day process. A filing date has not been published (TBA).
- Legal review: Cruise Industry News reported on November 4 that Washington-based Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether cabin buyers were fully told about the company’s finances, and is asking buyers and deposit holders to get in touch.

What it means for airline travelers
- Residents still travelling home from Cambodia can use Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, or connect through Singapore (SIN) or Bangkok (BKK). Keep receipts for any travel caused by the shutdown in case they are needed for a claim.
- Cabin owners and deposit holders: keep your contracts, payment records and emails, since they may matter in a bankruptcy or legal claim.
- Thinking about a residential or very long cruise? This is a reminder to check the operator’s finances and what protects your money before you pay a large deposit.
- No travel-industry or interline rates were mentioned.
