COPENHAGEN, Denmark — November 6, 2026 — Danish police returned to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) on Friday for a second straight day after a fresh wave of emailed hoax bomb threats against flights across Europe. The airport stayed open, but security steps, including re-screening of baggage, were added.
What happened
- Police at CPH, day two: Copenhagen police went to the airport on Thursday, November 5, and again on Friday, November 6, after threats directed at air traffic. Police said their first assessment was that passengers were not in danger.
- Extra security: airport operations were adjusted to include baggage re-screening, and a special security perimeter was set up, according to The National. How long these measures will stay in place has not been announced (TBA).
- Airport status: the airport said it was “operating normally,” according to Reuters. No CPH cancellations or delay figures were published.
- The wider picture: Eurocontrol said it knew of threats against 14 flights on Thursday and seven on Tuesday. The National counted at least 25 hoax alerts on Friday. No explosives have been found.
Other airports touched by Friday’s threats
| Airport | What was reported |
|---|---|
| Prague (PRG) | Threats against nine flights (four arriving, five departing); police said there was little effect on airport operations, and no flights were cancelled or diverted as a result |
| Venice (VCE) | A Wizz Air Prague–Rome flight diverted here; passengers were taken off after landing |
| Paris Orly (ORY) | France reported four threats against aircraft over French territory; the planes landed safely and were inspected |
What it means for non-revs
- Allow extra time at CPH. Bag re-screening and a security perimeter can slow check-in and bag drop. Get to the airport early.
- Carry on if you can. With checked bags being screened again, a carry-on avoids bag delays and makes it easier to switch flights.
- Expect last-minute surprises on intra-Europe flights. A threat can lead to a diversion or a long inspection after landing, and that can cause misconnects. Leave long connection times and avoid the last flight of the day.
- Diversions can cascade. When an aircraft and crew are held for checks, later flights on that rotation may be delayed or cancelled, and rebooked passengers can fill seats that standbys were counting on. Have a backup flight in mind.
- Check flight status before you leave. No end date for the extra security has been announced.
