October 2, 2026 — Update to our October 1 story. The national strike on Friday, October 2, went ahead as planned, with trains affected from 11:00 to 14:00. Italy’s official strike register has also gained new dates, including a national general strike on December 4.

Friday’s strike

The CSLE and FI-SI strike was not revoked, the Transport Ministry register shows. No figures on how many workers took part, or how many trains were cancelled, had been published in the reports we read. Operators handle refunds and rebooking, and the terms depend on your ticket type.

Dates not in yesterday’s list

Date Who / where Hours
Oct 15–16 Port authority workers, central Tyrrhenian ports (Naples area) 48 hours. Effect on ferries not stated.
Oct 20 Arriva Udine local buses 15:00–24:00
Oct 28 AIR Campania buses, Naples and Campania 08:00–16:00
Oct 29 Trenitalia customer-service staff at Bologna, Reggio Emilia and Rimini stations 24 hours. Station staff, not train crews.
Dec 3–4 National general strike (CUB, SGB, SI-Cobas and others) Rail from 21:00 Dec 3 to 21:00 Dec 4
Dec 16 ANM Naples (metro, buses, funiculars) 11:00–15:00

Source for dates: Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport strike register, checked October 2. The register does not list guaranteed-service hours.

Still on the calendar

  • Saturday, October 3: AMT Genoa local transport, 24 hours.
  • October 16: Pisa and Florence airports (handling staff, 24 hours) and security staff at Venice Marco Polo (24 hours).
  • November 21–22: air traffic control strikes, national on November 21 (13:00–17:00) and at Milan Malpensa on November 22.
  • Not confirmed: some strike-tracking sites list an air traffic control strike on October 16. It is not in the ministry register.

What it means for airline travelers

  • December 4: a national general strike usually hits trains, local transit and sometimes airports. If you plan to be in Italy that week, keep December 3–4 free of must-make train trips.
  • Naples: several dates affect the port, regional buses and the city network. Check before heading to the ferry terminal or the airport bus.
  • Genoa on Saturday: buses and the metro may not run outside protected hours. Plan a taxi for the airport.
  • Refunds: if a strike cancels your train, Trenitalia and Italo let you request a refund or change. Check each operator’s strike page for the terms.
  • Standby travelers: strike days push rail passengers onto flights and fill seats. Add a buffer day.
