October 2, 2026 — German river line Viva Cruises has released its largest program yet for 2028: 332 departures on seven ships across the Rhine, Danube, Douro and Dutch waterways. Bookings open October 15, 2026.
The program runs from January to December 2028 and adds four itineraries and four ports (Bingen, Glückstadt, Medemblik and Lemmer). The line’s two smaller boutique ships, Viva Beyond on the Seine and Viva Unique in Italy, offer three-night city stays from £750 per person and seven-night culinary cruises from £3,395 per person.
| New itinerary | Ship | Departures (2028) |
|---|---|---|
| 14 nights, Amsterdam to Budapest | Viva Enjoy | May 25 |
| 7 nights on the Meuse, round trip from Düsseldorf | Viva Tiara | Three departures, June–July |
| 7 nights on the IJsselmeer, round trip from Düsseldorf | Viva One | Four departures, June–August |

What it means for airline travelers
- Düsseldorf (DUS) is the main embarkation point for the new round trips. It has limited long-haul service, so many North American travelers will connect through Frankfurt (FRA) or Amsterdam (AMS) and continue by train.
- The Amsterdam-to-Budapest cruise is one-way: fly into Amsterdam (AMS) and home from Budapest (BUD).
- River water levels can change plans. Low or high water sometimes forces ship swaps or coach transfers, so keep flights flexible at both ends and arrive a day early.
- Interline rates: the announcement does not mention travel-industry rates.
