October 3, 2026 — Vilnius Airport was closed for less than an hour on Saturday, October 3, after a suspected drone entered Lithuania from Belarus, the country’s National Crisis Management Centre said. NATO air-policing jets were scrambled.

The details

  • Cause: under investigation.
  • Duration: less than one hour, Reuters reports. Exact times are not confirmed.
  • Flights affected: TBA.
  • Advisory: we found no change to US or Canadian travel advice for Lithuania.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Short closures can recur. Leave a longer connection if you route through Vilnius.
  • Diversions: a brief closure can send flights to Kaunas or Riga. Keep your phone on for airline messages.
  • Standby travelers: a diverted or delayed inbound aircraft can push your flight back. Avoid last-flight-of-the-day plans.
