October 6, 2026 — Syrian Airlines (RB) unveiled a green and gold livery at Damascus International Airport on October 5 and said it plans to double its fleet to 12 aircraft by the end of the year.
What happened
The new colors appeared on Airbus A320 YK-AKJ, FlightGlobal reports. The aircraft entered service during the ceremony, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA. The design replaces the carrier’s long-standing blue scheme with olive green, a gold bird emblem and large “SYRIAN” titles in English beside the Arabic name.
The airline has also dropped “Arab” from its name. It now trades as Syrian Airlines, or Syrian Air, Live and Let’s Fly reports.
The plan behind the paint
| Item | Now | Target |
|---|---|---|
| Fleet | 6 aircraft | 12 by the end of 2026 |
| Incoming aircraft | First 2 of 8 Airbus A320-family jets arrived in August 2026 | Delivery dates for the rest: TBA |
| Destinations | Started 2026 with 9; Amsterdam, Vienna, Copenhagen and Moscow added since | 25 by the end of 2026 |
| Next routes | Germany and France in planning | Dates TBA |
| Reservation system | New website live | New booking and payment platform in early November 2026; mobile app date TBA |
Chief executive Anwar Akkad said more routes will be announced soon. Anews reports that $250 million of a $4 billion Damascus airport development agreement signed in November 2025 is set aside for aircraft and support for the national carrier.
Syrian Airlines resumed commercial flying in July 2025, SANA notes.
What it means for non-revs
- No staff travel angle yet. None of the reports mention interline, ZED or codeshare agreements for Syrian Airlines. Do not expect it in your carrier’s agreement list.
- A new reservation system is the thing to watch. Modern booking and payment platforms, due in early November, are a precondition for interline ticketing. They are not a promise of it.
- Six aircraft is a thin fleet. With 25 destinations targeted on six to twelve aircraft, a single aircraft out of service will ripple through the schedule. Anyone flying the airline on a paid ticket should allow slack.
- Check your government’s travel advisory for Syria before planning any trip there, whatever the airline.
- For enthusiasts: the blue Syrianair scheme is on its way out. YK-AKJ is the first in green. Amsterdam, Vienna and Copenhagen are the European airports where the fleet now appears.
