October 7, 2026 — Update and correction to our October 6 story. The strike on Buenos Aires subway line A that we reported for Tuesday evening was called off late that afternoon. The CGT union federation’s march in central Buenos Aires goes ahead on Thursday, October 8, and no general strike date has been set.

What changed

  • Line A strike lifted: The union AGTSyP (Metrodelegados) cancelled the stoppage planned from 7 pm on October 6 after operator Emova agreed to repay disputed wage deductions within 48 hours. Line A ran normally. No new strike date is set.
  • Thursday’s march: The CGT marches to the former Industry Ministry at Diagonal Sur and Perú, near Plaza de Mayo. Infobae gives the start as 3:00 pm. Other outlets say 3:30 pm. It is a march, not a strike, and no transport stoppage is attached.
  • New on the calendar: Left-wing, social and union groups hold an assembly at Parque Lezama on Friday, October 9.
  • October 15: A university march reaches Congress at 2:00 pm, with the CGT taking part. Left-wing deputies have called for a national strike that day, but the CGT has not committed to one.
  • General strike: Still no date (TBA). The CGT has postponed it.
  • Transport unions: We found no new action by bus, rail, aviation or air traffic control unions.

Dates ahead

Date Action Transport impact
Thu, Oct 8, 3:00–3:30 pm CGT march, Diagonal Sur and Perú Traffic near Plaza de Mayo; no stoppage announced
Fri, Oct 9 Assembly at Parque Lezama None expected
Thu, Oct 15, 2:00 pm University march to Congress Traffic near Congress; strike call not backed by the CGT
TBA General strike Date not set

What it means for airline travelers

  • Flights are not affected by any action announced so far.
  • Thursday afternoon: Avoid the Plaza de Mayo area. If your route to Aeroparque or Ezeiza crosses the city centre, leave extra time.
  • October 15: Avoid the Congress area in the afternoon and check the news that morning in case a strike call gains support.
  • Watch for a general strike date. A general strike could affect flights, so standby travelers should check again before any late-year trip.

Sources
