October 7, 2026 — Update to our October 6 story. Brussels South Charleroi Airport said on Wednesday that every scheduled flight will operate on Friday, October 9, and Monday, October 12, despite the union actions on both days. Brussels Airport still expects about 140 cancellations on Friday, and the national rail strike still starts Sunday night.
What changed
- Charleroi: All departures and arrivals are maintained on both days. The airport warns that picket lines could slow access to the terminal and asks passengers to allow extra time.
- Brussels Airport, Friday: No new figure. About 140 flights remain cancelled because staff at ground handler Alyzia are joining the action. Flights handled by Aviapartner are not expected to be affected.
- Brussels Airport, Monday: The airport does not expect the October 12 public-services action to disrupt flights, but says ground transport to the airport will be disrupted.
- De Lijn: The reduced timetable for Friday goes into the route planner on Wednesday evening. The one for Monday follows on Saturday evening, October 10.
- Brussels transit (STIB/MIVB): Still cannot say which lines will run on Friday.
- International trains: SNCB International says it does not yet know how the rail strike will affect Eurostar, TGV INOUI, OUIGO, ICE and EuroCity services.

What it means for airline travelers
- Charleroi is the safer bet on Friday if you have a choice, but leave early for the terminal.
- Avoid standby through Brussels Airport on Friday. Displaced revenue passengers will fill the seats that remain.
- Check your handler on the Brussels Airport website. Airlines contact passengers directly about cancelled flights and rebooking.
- Getting to either airport on Monday: With trains on strike and buses thin, book a taxi or shuttle in advance.
- Rail tickets: SNCB lets rerouted passengers travel between their original stations without a new ticket. Normal refund and exchange rules apply. EuroCity saver tickets are valid from one day before to one day after, or can be refunded in full.
