October 7, 2026 — Five French flight-crew unions are keeping their national strike notice for October 17–21 in place, even after the government offered concessions on the pension rule at the heart of the dispute. Air France, Transavia France and Corsair are the carriers most exposed, and no airline has yet published a cancellation plan.
What happened
The notice covers all pilots and cabin crew employed by French airlines or working on French contracts. It runs from 00:01 on Saturday, October 17, to 23:59 on Wednesday, October 21, Paris time — five days that fall in the Toussaint school holidays. The unions behind it are SNPL (pilots), UNSA-PNC, SNPNC-FO, SNGAF and UNAC.
The dispute is not with the airlines. It is over a government reform of the rules for drawing a pension while still working (cumul emploi-retraite), which takes effect on January 1, 2027. The unions say it penalises flight crew, whose careers can end early because of medical fitness rules and age limits, and they want crew and their supplementary pension fund, the CRPN, excluded from the reform in law.
What changed on October 6
In a joint leaflet published on October 6, the unions said the strike notice had made the government move. According to the unions and French trade outlet TourMaG, the government has committed to:
- no financial agreement between the CRPN and the State;
- a decree by mid-October to firm up the legal framework (exact date TBA);
- a CRPN board decision that crew pensions will not be reduced before the basic state pension is drawn;
- a circular addressed only to the state pension body, leaving the CRPN outside it.
The unions say that is progress but not enough. They are holding the notice until the commitments are in force, and they still want a full exclusion written into law.

What it means for non-revs
- Treat October 17–21 as high risk on Air France, Transavia France and Corsair. These are school-holiday dates, so flights were already going to be full before any cancellations.
- The strike could still be called off. The promised mid-October decree is the thing to watch. If the unions accept it, the notice may be lifted at short notice.
- Do not plan tight connections through Paris. If flights are cut, rebooked revenue passengers will take the empty seats for several days either side, including October 16 and October 22–23.
- ZED travellers: listing on Air France for those dates is a gamble. Carriers with no French-contract crew, such as KLM via Amsterdam, are not covered by the notice.
- Wait for airline schedules. No carrier has said how much it will fly. Check again once cancellation programmes are published.
