October 8, 2026 — Holland America Line has opened bookings for five newly added voyages on Oosterdam, the first ship to go through the line’s Holland America Evolution refit. The first sails from Civitavecchia on October 31, 2027.
The Carnival Corporation brand announced the sailings on October 7. They replace part of a schedule the line withdrew in September, when it moved Oosterdam’s refit five weeks earlier and relocated the work to Marseille, France. At that time Holland America cancelled the ship’s previously published voyages from September 11 to December 9, 2027 and said it would contact affected guests and travel advisors about rebooking. Exact drydock dates are TBA.
The five voyages
| Departs (2027) | Length | Route |
|---|---|---|
| October 31 | 10 days | Civitavecchia (Rome) to Trieste, “Adriatic Antiquities” |
| November 10 | 11 days | Trieste to Piraeus (Athens), via Croatia, the Greek Isles and Istanbul |
| November 21 | 7 days | Piraeus to Barcelona, via the Greek Isles and Malta |
| November 28 | 13 days | Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale, a transatlantic crossing via Spain and Gibraltar |
| December 11 | 11 days | Round trip Fort Lauderdale, Eastern Caribbean |
The October 31 sailing is the first after the refit and calls at ports including Pompeii, Sicily, Corfu, Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor and Croatia. Fares have not been published.
What the refit adds
Oosterdam returns with purpose-built Solo Verandah cabins, forward-facing Bridgeview Suites, Vista Suites and a redesigned Pinnacle Suite. Public spaces gain a Grand Dutch Café and a reworked Ocean Bar. Line president Beth Bodensteiner said the ship “marks the beginning of an exciting new era for our fleet.”
Guests who held the earlier inaugural and first transatlantic bookings for December 2027 can move to the matching new sailings, according to the line’s September notice. No compensation was described.
What it means for airline travelers
- Four of the five are one-way trips. You fly into one city and home from another, so you need standby seats on two different routes. Check loads on both before you commit.
- Trieste is the hard one. Its airport (TRS) is small. Venice (VCE) is the nearest larger gateway, and you will need a ground transfer between the two.
- Rome, Athens and Barcelona are easy. Fiumicino (FCO), Athens (ATH) and Barcelona (BCN) are major airports, but seasonal transatlantic schedules thin out in November. Confirm that your carrier still flies the route that late in the season.
- The transatlantic needs only one international flight. The November 28 crossing ends in Fort Lauderdale (FLL), with Miami (MIA) as a backup.
- If you held a cancelled Oosterdam sailing between September 11 and December 9, 2027, and have not heard from the line, call now. New inventory is open and the solo cabins are limited.
- Arrive a day early in Europe. Late-autumn weather and reduced frequencies leave little recovery time for a missed standby flight.
