October 8, 2026 — Ryanair is removing four aircraft and twelve routes from its Austrian network this winter and has told Bremen it will stop flying there from April 2027. It also will not return to Leipzig/Halle or Dresden next summer.

What happened

Vienna. Ryanair will base 12 aircraft in Vienna this winter, down from 16 last winter. Eighty pilot and cabin crew jobs are affected. The cuts start with the winter schedule at the end of October 2026.

The Local Austria lists ten routes ending from Vienna: Copenhagen, Marseille, Tel Aviv, Dubrovnik, Niš, Salerno, Seville, Warsaw, Lanzarote and Riga. London Stansted flights from Linz and Klagenfurt also end. Linz–Stansted is due back in summer 2027 at two flights a week; return dates for the rest are TBA. German-language reports describe all twelve as Vienna routes.

Ryanair blames Austria’s 12-euro passenger tax, which the government did not abolish, along with higher air traffic control and airport charges.

Bremen. Ryanair has told the state government in writing that it will leave Bremen from April 2027, after nearly 20 years. Fee talks began in September and failed. Ryanair carries about 400,000 passengers a year there, close to a fifth of the airport’s traffic. The airport is appointing a restructuring director.

Leipzig/Halle and Dresden. Talks about a return ended without agreement, so there will be no Ryanair flights from either airport in summer 2027.

Airport Change Effective
Vienna Four fewer based aircraft; ten routes cut End of October 2026
Linz and Klagenfurt London Stansted route cut End of October 2026
Bremen All flights end April 2027
Leipzig/Halle and Dresden No return Summer 2027

What it means for non-revs

  • Ryanair has no ZED or interline staff travel, so this matters as backup-ticket supply, not standby space.
  • Vienna loses a cheap fallback. Austrian reporting says Ryanair competed with Austrian Airlines on eight of the ten Vienna routes, so expect fuller Austrian flights and higher walk-up fares there.
  • Bremen loses its London Stansted and Spain leisure flights from April 2027. Staff commuting through Bremen should plan around Hamburg or Hanover.
  • Ryanair crew based in Vienna: 80 jobs are affected; the reports do not say whether transfers are offered.
