October 9, 2026 — Virgin Voyages has replaced all three Mexican Riviera ports on Brilliant Lady’s October 10 cruise from Los Angeles with Santa Barbara, San Diego and Ensenada. Two Pacific storms forced the change.

Update: earlier editions covered Brilliant Lady’s September 26 and October 3 changes. This is a third consecutive sailing, announced in the past 24 hours.

The seven-night voyage still leaves Los Angeles on Saturday, October 10, and returns on October 17, Cruise Hive reports. Virgin told guests it changed the route after reviewing the latest forecasts for Tropical Storm Rachel and Hurricane Simon. Its notice said, “Your safety and the safety of our Crew will always come first.”

The revised itinerary

Date Original port Revised port
October 10 Los Angeles (depart) Unchanged
October 12 Cabo San Lucas Santa Barbara, California
October 13 Mazatlán San Diego, California
October 14 Puerto Vallarta Ensenada, Mexico
October 17 Los Angeles (return) Unchanged

Port times for the new calls: TBA in the report. Ensenada is now the only Mexican stop.

Compensation

  • Standard cabins: $100 per person in non-refundable onboard credit, plus a $200 per person Future Voyage Credit.
  • RockStar and MegaRockStar suites: $200 per person in onboard credit, plus a $300 per person Future Voyage Credit.

The report does not mention a cancellation or refund option.

What comes next

The October 17 sailing still lists Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta, and Virgin has announced no change to it. Further changes are possible, Cruise Hive notes. Brilliant Lady is the line’s first California-based ship and moves to Miami in late October. Exact repositioning date: TBA in the report.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Flights do not change. The cruise starts and ends in Los Angeles on the original dates. Los Angeles (LAX) is the main airport and Long Beach (LGB) is the nearby alternative.
  • Still fly in a day early. Rachel is building heavy surf along Southern California this weekend, and the National Hurricane Center expects gusty winds and rain in the Southwest.
  • Repack. Santa Barbara and San Diego in mid-October are cooler than Cabo. Bring layers.
  • Cancel independent Mexico tours now. Refunds on those depend on the vendor. Check any trip insurance you bought before the storms were named.
  • October 17 guests: Simon is forecast to hit the coast near Puerto Vallarta on Sunday. Watch for a notice, and keep flights flexible.
  • Interline rates: the report mentions no travel-industry pricing. Ask your agent whether the Future Voyage Credit applies to an interline fare.
