LAS VEGAS, October 12, 2026 — Update to our October 11 story. Rachel’s remnants brought low clouds and wind to Las Vegas on Sunday. Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) logged 522 delays and 47 cancellations for the day, and the FAA slowed arrivals with a ground delay program.
What happened Sunday
- Delays and cancellations: the FAA recorded 522 delays and 47 cancellations at LAS on Sunday, October 11, FOX5 Las Vegas reports.
- Cause: weather and low clouds, according to the FAA.
- Ground delay program: the FAA’s airport status feed, updated at about 1 p.m. Las Vegas time on Sunday, showed a ground delay program for low ceilings. Delays averaged 51 minutes, with a longest delay of 3 hours 9 minutes.
- Arrivals: FOX5 reported average delays of about 50 minutes for some flights into Las Vegas. Airborne holding was 15 minutes or less at the time.
Monday
- The airport had warned travelers on Saturday to expect possible weather delays on both Sunday and Monday, as FOX5 and other local outlets reported.
- Monday delay programs or cancellation counts: TBA. Check with your airline before heading to the airport.
What it means for non-revs
- Monday morning will be tight. Passengers whose Sunday flights were cancelled are being moved onto Monday flights, which eats into open seats. Expect poor standby odds on early departures.
- List on more than one flight. Have a backup flight, or a route through another hub, in case your first choice fills.
- Expect misconnects. If inbound flights run late, connections at your next hub may be tight. Allow extra time between flights.
- Carry on. Delays and rebookings make it more likely a checked bag ends up on a different flight from you.
