October 13, 2026 — Aegean Airlines has a new chief executive. Dimitris Gerogiannis, who led the Greek carrier for 20 years, has resigned. Chief financial officer and deputy CEO Michalis Kouveliotis took over with immediate effect on October 12, 2026.
What happened
- New CEO: Michalis Kouveliotis was Aegean’s CFO from before its listing on the Athens Stock Exchange. He became deputy CEO in early 2025, coordinating the company’s business divisions.
- Outgoing CEO: Dimitris Gerogiannis was one of Aegean’s founding executives. He stays on as an adviser, overseeing the airline’s technical base and training centre.
- Why: No reason was given for his resignation. Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis described it as a handover to “a new generation of executives.” He said Kouveliotis had steered the airline through growth and crisis.
- Strategy changes: None announced. TBA.
What it means for non-revs
This changes nothing for travel today. Aegean has announced no changes to its schedule, fleet or staff travel. A new CEO with a finance background often reviews costs and the network in the first few months, so if you work for or regularly travel on Aegean, watch for announcements this winter. Any network changes would also matter to anyone who connects through Athens.
