October 13, 2026 — Operators have given the first details of tomorrow’s regional bus and train strike in the Netherlands. Rotterdam-area buses will not run, while NS trains and city transport in Amsterdam and The Hague are not affected.
Wednesday, October 14
- Unions: FNV and CNV, in a dispute over the collective labor agreement. They plan to strike one day a week until Christmas; later dates are TBA.
- Operators affected: Arriva, EBS, Qbuzz, Transdev and Keolis. Connexxion says it is unsure how many buses and trains will run.
- Rotterdam region (RET): no buses; trams and metro will run.
- Utrecht: service depends on how many bus and tram drivers report for work.
- Not affected: NS trains and NS replacement buses run to schedule. GVB (Amsterdam) and HTM (The Hague) are not on strike.
- Hours and minimum service: TBA. Keolis says some trains and buses will run but has not said which; Qbuzz says service depends on who chooses to work.
What it means for airline travelers
- Schiphol to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht by NS train is unaffected.
- If your onward trip relies on a regional bus or a regional (non-NS) train, check the bus operator’s website shortly before you leave, as NS advises, and plan a taxi as backup.
- This is the first of weekly strikes; check each week before travelling until Christmas.
