October 13, 2026 — Update: Delta has decided. Its Atlanta–Riyadh nonstop, due to start on October 23, is postponed until March 2027. On October 11 we reported that the airline had not yet made a call after the deadly attacks on Riyadh’s airport.
What happened
- Route: Atlanta (ATL) to Riyadh King Khalid International (RUH). One Mile at a Time reports it was planned as a daily Airbus A350-900 flight. AirlineGeeks reports it was to start daily and drop to three times a week after October 30.
- New start: March 2027. Exact date: TBA.
- Why: Delta pointed to “evolving developments in the region.” It said customer and employee safety comes first and that it is coordinating with government and aviation partners, including Saudia and Riyadh Air.
- Customers: Booked passengers can review their options, including a refund, in My Trips on delta.com or in Delta’s app.
- Background: Delta announced the route in October 2025 and opened sales that December. One Mile at a Time says bookings were weak even before the attacks, and its writer doubts the March launch will happen.
What it means for non-revs
- There is no Delta flight to Riyadh to list for this year. If you were planning to try the inaugural or an early flight, cancel those plans. Delta has not said whether any replacement routing will be offered.
- Crew: if you bid or were awarded RUH trips for late October or beyond, check your schedule and company notices for how those trips will be handled.
- Getting to Saudi Arabia: the closure of Riyadh’s airport affects every airline. Even partner routings will not work until RUH reopens. It is currently closed through at least October 17.
