October 19, 2026 — Update: Royal Caribbean has lengthened the Halifax call for Oasis of the Seas, the ship it sent to Nova Scotia instead of the Bahamas to avoid an East Coast storm. Guests now get a full day ashore instead of an overnight stop. Separately, the line laid out an Asia plan that keeps China at its center.

What changed on Oasis of the Seas

Oasis of the Seas left Cape Liberty, New Jersey, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, carrying 5,602 guests on a 7-night cruise. It had been booked to call at Port Canaveral, Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau. High winds and heavy swells off the East Coast led Royal Caribbean to send the ship to Halifax instead, and guests were told the evening before sailing. That reroute was covered in yesterday’s roundup. What is new: the Halifax stop has been extended by about 10 hours.

Item Before Now
Halifax arrival 6 p.m. Tue, Oct 20 6 p.m. Tue, Oct 20 (unchanged)
Halifax departure 8 a.m. Wed, Oct 21 6 p.m. Wed, Oct 21
Other ports None (sea days) None (sea days)
Return to Cape Liberty About 6 a.m. Sun, Oct 25 About 6 a.m. Sun, Oct 25 (unchanged)

Royal Caribbean’s onboard letter promised guests “a full day to explore Halifax.” The compensation already offered is unchanged:

  • Onboard credit per guest: $200 for inside and oceanview cabins, $300 for balconies, $600 for suites, plus $100 more for each third or additional guest in a cabin.
  • A 50% future cruise credit per paid guest, to be issued by November 1, 2026, and booked by October 18, 2027.

China at the center of the Asia plan

Benjamin Bouldin, Royal Caribbean’s president of Greater China and managing director of Asia, told Cruise Industry News that the line is moving from a China-only approach to one Asia-wide platform. He called China’s cruise market a “second golden decade.”

  • Spectrum of the Seas, 2026-27: more than 70 cruises of 2 to 9 nights from Shanghai and Hong Kong, visiting about 20 destinations in Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. Hong Kong departures are pitched to international guests as well as Chinese travelers.
  • 2027-28 season: 56 sailings of 3 to 11 nights covering 22 Asian destinations, including new open-jaw cruises that use Yokohama as a starting and ending port.
  • Navigator of the Seas: year-round from Singapore, starting October 2026.
  • Quantum of the Seas: Singapore, October 2027 through March 2028.
  • Voyager of the Seas: Singapore and Hong Kong, January through April 2028, with new Hong Kong round trips and a Singapore-to-Hong Kong sailing.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Oasis guests: the return to Cape Liberty is still about 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 25. Newark (EWR) is the closest major airport, with JFK and LaGuardia as backups. Leave plenty of time after disembarkation before any flight that morning, and on standby, list for a later flight rather than the first departure out.
  • No flight changes are needed for the Halifax extension, since the ship’s return time has not changed.
  • Guests who planned to fly home through Florida or the Bahamas are not affected: this sailing begins and ends in New Jersey.
  • Asia: the new open-jaw and Singapore-to-Hong Kong itineraries start and end in different cities. Book or plan separate inbound and outbound flights (for example into Singapore and home from Hong Kong). Exact sailing dates are TBA in the source.
  • Royal Caribbean did not mention any travel-industry or interline rate changes.
