October 23, 2026 — Ambassador Cruise Line has rerouted Ambition’s 17-night “Land of Northern Lights” cruise, replacing its Arctic Norway calls with ports further south because of two storms.

What happened

Ambition left Bristol on Friday, October 16, 2026. Forecasts for Storms Austen and Boelo called for winds of up to 70 knots and swells of up to 7 metres. The line said keeping the original route “would put our guests, our crew and the ship at risk.”

The ship is still calling at Alta on October 23. The rest of the northern route has been replaced: the planned calls at Hammerfest, Harstad, Leknes, Narvik and Bodø. The return to Bristol on Monday, November 2 is unchanged.

Date New port of call
Mon Oct 26 Åndalsnes
Tue Oct 27 Molde
Wed Oct 28 Ålesund (second visit this sailing)
Thu Oct 29 Bergen
Fri Oct 30 Stavanger

No compensation has been reported. Guests posting online praised the crew for keeping them safe.

What it means for airline travelers

  • The return date has not changed, so flights home from Bristol on or after November 2 should not need to change.
  • Guests on the sailing lose the far-north Northern Lights ports. If you booked tours for those ports separately, contact the operators about refunds.
  • If you are booked on a future Arctic Norway sailing this winter, expect weather-related changes. Allow a buffer day before and after the cruise when you book flights.
  • The report does not mention any effect on travel-industry or interline rates.
