October 23, 2026 — Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled Norwegian Luna’s call at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island in the Bahamas, because a technical problem means the ship has to sail at reduced speed.
What happened
Norwegian Luna left Miami on October 17, 2026, on a seven-night Caribbean sailing. It called at Puerto Plata (October 19), St. Thomas (October 20) and Tortola (October 21). The final stop, Great Stirrup Cay on October 23, was dropped and replaced with an extra day at sea before the ship returns to Miami.
NCL told guests about a “technical issue that requires us to operate the ship at a reduced speed” and said vessel safety is not affected. Guests reported engine trouble, and a photo shared on Reddit appeared to show the starboard Azipod running at reduced output. NCL has not officially detailed the cause.

NCL has not said what repairs are needed or whether the October 24 departure will change. The line says it will update affected guests as more information becomes available.
What it means for airline travelers
- Booked on the October 24 sailing? Watch your email and the NCL app closely. A ship running slower may drop or reorder ports, and changes may be announced at short notice.
- Fly into Miami (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale (FLL) the day before, not the morning of departure. That way a schedule change or a full flight doesn’t cost you the cruise.
- Guests disembarking on October 24 should keep flexible afternoon flight options in case the ship’s arrival is affected. NCL has not announced any change to the arrival time.
- No goodwill credit has been reported for the missed port. If you were on board, ask Guest Services and keep your itinerary-change notice.
- The report does not mention any effect on travel-industry or interline rates.
