October 23, 2026 — Romanian airline Dan Air has asked a court to open insolvency proceedings so it can reorganize. It says it will keep flying its published schedule while it seeks protection from a handful of creditors. It is the second Romanian carrier in less than a month to seek court protection.
What happened
- Filing: Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Ilfov Tribunal (case no. 3523/93/2026), under Romania’s insolvency law (Law 85/2014).
- Next step: the law calls for the court to rule within 10 days, in chambers. The filing alone does not open the procedure. Ruling date: TBA.
- Why: Dan Air says a small number of suppliers demanded full payment of overdue balances and made further service conditional on it. It wants protection from individual creditor actions that could ground scheduled flights.
- Operations: the airline says it is flying normally on its published timetable, with the backing of its aircraft owner, leasing company Aviator Capital, and most of its suppliers.

Background
Pilot Dan Iuhas founded the company in 2017 as Just Us Air. It flew charter and wet-lease work for carriers including Transavia, TUI, Air Serbia and Wizz Air before launching its own scheduled flights as Dan Air. It now has a base at Bacău, with flights listed from there to cities including London, Dublin, Brussels, Milan, Turin and Bologna. From Bucharest it lists Dublin, Damascus and Ibiza. Fellow Romanian carrier AnimaWings filed a second insolvency request on October 20, after its first was rejected. Its first hearing is October 28.
What it means for non-revs
- Flights are operating for now, but the court ruling due within days is the next pressure point. If you plan to fly Dan Air, have a backup on another carrier.
- Buy refundable where you can. If you are buying a ticket on Dan Air, pay by a method that offers protection, and keep the receipt.
- Why it matters to airline people: two small Romanian airlines seeking court protection within a month shows how hard high costs are hitting smaller European carriers.
