NEW YORK, United States — October 26, 2026 — AirTrain JFK will shut down section by section on two nights this week for maintenance by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Free shuttle buses will replace the trains on the closed sections.

The closures

When No train service Still running
10 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, October 28 Howard Beach, Lefferts Boulevard and Federal Circle to the airline terminals Jamaica to Federal Circle
10 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, to 6 a.m. Thursday, October 29 Jamaica Station to Federal Circle Howard Beach, Lefferts Boulevard and Federal Circle to the terminals
Backup if weather delays the work: 10 p.m. Thursday, October 29, to 6 a.m. Friday, October 30 TBA TBA

Getting around

  • Night 1: Free buses run from Federal Circle to all terminals and from Howard Beach and Lefferts Boulevard to the terminals. A loop bus serves Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8.
  • Night 2: Free buses run between Jamaica and Federal Circle.
  • Where to wait: The buses stop at ground level. Do not wait for them on the elevated AirTrain platforms.
  • Help: Customer service agents will be at open stations and bus stops.

What it means for non-revs

  • Add time if you travel late at night. If you are rolling to a late arrival or listing for an early-morning departure between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on these nights, the bus transfer will add time.
  • Changing terminals? On the first night, terminal-to-terminal moves depend on the loop bus, so leave a bigger cushion if you might switch to another airline’s flight in a different terminal.
  • Crew and staff commuting by subway or LIRR: Check which section is closed on your night. Night 1 affects the Howard Beach and Lefferts Boulevard side, and Night 2 affects the Jamaica side.
  • Watch for the backup night. If weather pushes the work back, the closure could move to Thursday night, October 29.
