October 27, 2026 — Update: Ambassador Cruise Line has cut two more Norwegian ports from Ambition‘s Northern Lights voyage as Storms Austen and Boelo continue to batter the coast. The ship had already skipped Hammerfest, Leknes and Narvik earlier on the trip; Ålesund and Stavanger are the new cancellations.
What changed
Ambition left Bristol, UK, on October 16 on a 17-night “Land of Northern Lights” cruise and is due back in Bristol on Monday, November 2. The line has now cancelled:
- Ålesund, planned for October 28, because forecast southerly winds would make berthing and leaving unsafe.
- Stavanger, planned for October 30.
In their place:
| Date | Revised plan |
|---|---|
| October 27 | Molde, extended to an overnight stay |
| October 29–30 | Bergen, arriving about 6 p.m. on October 29 and staying overnight |
| After Bergen | Direct return to Bristol |
| November 2 | Arrival in Bristol (unchanged) |
No compensation for the dropped ports was mentioned in the report.
What it means for airline travelers
- The return date to Bristol has not changed, so flights home from November 2 should stand. Still, the same storms have been delaying sailings in and out of UK ports, so leave room on disembarkation day, and if you are standby, list on a later flight as a backup.
- Bristol Airport (BRS) is the nearest airport; London Heathrow (LHR) offers far more long-haul options but is a long road or rail trip from the port.
- Anyone who had planned to leave the ship early in Ålesund or Stavanger will need to rework those plans; Bergen (BGO) is now the only revised Norwegian overnight with a major airport.
- No change to travel-industry or interline rates was mentioned.
