October 28, 2026 — Air Mauritius is reconsidering its remaining Airbus A350 orders as part of a revised strategic business plan, and is looking at adding smaller aircraft, FlightGlobal reported on October 28.
What happened
Chief executive André Viljoen outlined the fleet thinking after an in-depth review of the airline’s operations. FlightGlobal says the carrier has three A350-900s still on order. No decision on the orders has been announced (TBA).
Earlier this year, ch-aviation reported that the airline’s turnaround work was looking at narrowbodies such as the A321neo (long-range version) or the Boeing 737 MAX for routes like Johannesburg, Cape Town, Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai. Viljoen argued smaller jets would allow more frequencies at lower cost than the widebodies now used.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| A350-900s on order | 3 (deliveries had been scheduled for December 2026, Q1 2028 and Q4 2028, per ch-aviation in May) |
| Current fleet (per ch-aviation, May 2026) | 4 A350-900, 2 A330-900neo, 1 A330-200, 4 ATR 72-600 |
| Narrowbody types considered | A321neo long-range or 737 MAX |
| Decision date | TBA |
What it means for non-revs
- No schedule changes yet. Nothing announced affects current flights.
- Longer term: If narrowbodies replace widebodies on regional routes, each flight would have fewer seats but there could be more frequencies — which can mean more chances to get on, but less room per departure.
