Update to our October 26 report: Friday’s CP rail strike is off.
October 28, 2026 — The strike by ticket inspectors and ticket-office staff at Portuguese railway CP (Comboios de Portugal), set for Friday, October 30, has been suspended after talks with the government.
What changed
- Who: The Itinerant Commercial Railway Inspection Union (SFRCI) withdrew its strike notice.
- Why: The union cited “positive developments” from an October 27 meeting with government representatives. The ministry and CP management said they would follow up on its demands.
- Caveat: The union is not dropping its demands. It says it could strike again if concrete results don’t follow. No new dates have been set (TBA).
- Lisbon Metro: This development does not cover the Lisbon Metro morning strikes (5–10 a.m. on October 28 and 30) reported earlier. We could not confirm their latest status today, so treat Friday’s Metro action as possible until the operator says otherwise.
What it means for airline travelers
- CP trains should run normally on Friday, including Lisbon and Porto suburban services and intercity trains. Check CP’s site on the day in case anything changes.
- Early arrivals in Lisbon on Friday: The Metro Red Line to the airport may still be hit from 5 to 10 a.m. Plan on a taxi, ride-hail or the airport bus for early-morning trips.
