NAPLES, Italy — October 30, 2026 — Naples International Airport (NAP, Capodichino) shuts to flights from Sunday, November 1 for a month of planned runway work. Southern Italy’s main gateway will be dark for all of November, and airlines from across Europe are suspending or shifting their Naples flying.
What is happening
- The airport’s own website says Naples “will be closed in November 2026 for extensive and planned runway upgrades,” as quoted by the Mirror (via AOL) on October 30.
- Closure dates: November 1–30, 2026, according to Deep Arrival, which advises re-checking the airport’s status from December 1. The Mirror describes the airport as scheduled to reopen on November 30. Exact first day of flights after the works: TBA; check with the airport operator, GESAC.
- The work is part of a wider modernisation plan. The Mirror reports it includes runway refurbishment, a second terminal for non-Schengen flights (including UK services), new aircraft stands, a cargo and logistics area and a hotel. The airport handles about 13 million passengers a year.
Airlines affected
| Airline | What was reported |
|---|---|
| Lufthansa Group | Flights between Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich and Naples suspended Nov 1–30; passengers rebooked where possible via Rome Fiumicino (Deep Arrival, citing Lufthansa Group’s July 22 notice) |
| Eurowings | Stuttgart and Düsseldorf routes were “under evaluation” as of July (Deep Arrival); current status TBA |
| easyJet | London Gatwick flights affected (Mirror) |
| Ryanair | London Stansted, Manchester and Edinburgh flights affected (Mirror) |
Getting there another way
- Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport (Salerno-Pontecagnano) is the nearest alternative named in the reports. GESAC runs a shuttle bus between Naples Piazza Garibaldi and Salerno airport, eight times a day in each direction, at €12 per person (Mirror).
- Trains also run between Naples Central and Salerno; the Mirror put the fare at about £5 each way.
- Lufthansa Group is using Rome Fiumicino for rebookings (Deep Arrival).
What it means for non-revs
- Don’t list for Naples in November — there will be no flights to list on. Any existing listings or passes for NAP dates in November need to be moved.
- Rome Fiumicino is the main fallback. With Lufthansa Group pushing displaced Naples passengers through Fiumicino, expect tighter loads on Rome flights from Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich, and plan the rail leg from Rome to Naples into your trip.
- Salerno is closer but smaller. Check which airlines are actually serving Salerno on your dates before relying on it, and allow time for the shuttle into Naples.
- Early December is a watch-out. The reopening date is not firmly published, so avoid tight plans around the first days after the works until GESAC confirms flights are back.
