October 30, 2026 — Riviera Travel says its new George Eliot will be the world’s first river cruise ship built only for solo travelers, with sailings starting in June 2027.
The details
- George Eliot will sail solo-only departures on the Danube, Rhine and Moselle from June 2027. Its cabin and guest count were not published (TBA).
- Stuart Milan, Riviera’s president for North America, called solo travel “a massive, underserved bit of the market.”
- Fleet growth: Resplendence made its maiden voyage on July 4, 2026. Reflection and Alba are due in 2027 and Rhapsody in 2028.
- Alba will sail the Mekong with 25 cabins and 40 to 50 guests.
What it means for airline travelers
- Solo cruisers normally pay a single supplement. A ship built only for solo guests could change that; fares were not published (TBA).
- Gateways: Danube, Rhine and Moselle sailings usually start or end at hubs such as Budapest, Vienna, Amsterdam, Basel or Frankfurt. Check embarkation cities when schedules are released.
