CHENNAI, India — November 3, 2026 — Eleven IndiGo flights to and from Chennai International Airport (MAA) were cancelled on Monday, November 2, as Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu moved toward the south Andhra Pradesh coast, the Airports Authority of India said.
What happened
- Cancellations: 11 IndiGo flights on short regional routes between Chennai and Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Tiruchirappalli (see table).
- Cause: strong crosswinds, heavy rain and poor runway visibility, according to airport officials quoted by Aviation Jeta. The cancellations were described as a safety measure.
- The storm: the India Meteorological Department expected Murasu to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole, between midnight on November 2 and early November 3, with sustained winds of 100–110 km/h gusting to 120 km/h (DT Next).
- Other effects: airline advisories warned of knock-on delays, aircraft holding before landing, and possible diversions to Bengaluru or Hyderabad.
- Advice: the airport told passengers to contact their airline for more information.
- Resumption of normal service: TBA.

What it means for non-revs
- Long-haul flights at MAA were not reported cancelled. The cuts were limited to IndiGo regional routes, but expect holding and possible diversions while the storm passes.
- Regional seats will be tight. Passengers from the cancelled Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Tiruchirappalli flights will be rebooked first, so standby chances on those routes will be slim for a day or two.
- Do not plan a tight onward connection from Chennai while the cyclone is near the coast. A diversion to Bengaluru or Hyderabad could leave you far from your connecting flight.
- Carry on in case of diversions or rebookings.
