Update to our earlier Italy coverage: what is new is a reported nationwide four-hour strike by air traffic control staff on November 6, and a second, shorter Italo strike called by five more unions for November 9.
November 4, 2026 — Italy faces two days of travel strikes in the coming week. Employees of ENAV, the national air navigation service, are set to walk out for four hours on Friday, November 6, and staff at high-speed rail operator Italo will strike on Monday, November 9.
Air traffic control: Friday, November 6
- Nationwide action: The FILT-CGIL and UGL-TA unions have called what Rus Tourism News describes as “a nationwide four-hour strike involving ENAV employees,” from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time. Flights may be delayed or cancelled; no estimate of cancellations had been published.
- Bari: A separate strike at Bari airport, called by Fast Confsal AV, runs during the same hours.
- Note: The Local’s November strike calendar (last updated October 31) lists only the Bari action for this date, so the nationwide action is new and has not been confirmed by a second outlet we read. ENAV says legally required essential services will be kept.
Italo high-speed trains: Monday, November 9
- 8-hour nationwide strike: 9:01 a.m. to 4:59 p.m., called by FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, UGL Ferrovieri, FAST-Confsal and ORSA Trasporti.
- Train crews: 2:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., called by UILT-UIL.
- Who is affected: Italo services only. The notices do not cover Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa or regional trains.
- Guaranteed trains: TBA. Italo normally publishes a list of guaranteed services before a strike.
- Reason: Wages, working conditions and contract renewal.

What it means for airline travelers
- If you are flying to, from or within Italy on the afternoon of November 6, expect possible delays and cancellations between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Standby seats will be scarce as airlines rebook passengers — a morning flight or another day is a safer bet.
- If you booked Italo for November 9, check Italo’s guaranteed-train list once it is published, or look at Trenitalia, which is not named in the notices.
- Plan around November 20–21 now: the general strike will hit trains, air traffic control and city transit at the same time.
- Ask the rail operator about refunds or free changes if your train is cancelled, and check whether your travel insurance covers strikes that were announced before you bought the policy.
