REYKJAVÍK, Nov. 6, 2026 — The Icelandic Airline Pilots Association (FÍA) will ballot its Icelandair members on industrial action. The action would cover only third-party charter flights operated by Icelandair or its Loftleiðir unit, not scheduled services.
Where things stand
- Scope: charter flights only. FÍA says the action “would not affect Icelandair’s regular route network.”
- Contract: the pilots’ contracts expired in autumn 2025. Talks have been with the State Mediator since spring 2026.
- Points in dispute: these include whether Icelandair-related work will move to Malta.
- Union offers: FÍA says Icelandair rejected all of these:
- terms in line with the general labor market
- a short-term floating agreement
- a wage freeze shared across employee groups and management
- Company move: Icelandair recently sent a pay proposal directly to pilots.
- Vote date: TBA.
- Strike dates: TBA. No action has started and no cancellations have been announced.
What it means for non-revs
- Scheduled Icelandair flights, which are the ones pass riders use, are outside the proposed action. No change to your plans is needed now.
- A pilot dispute that drags on can spread. Watch for the vote result and any widening of the action before you book a Keflavík connection.
