FRANKFURT, Nov. 6, 2026 — Lufthansa Group is phasing in a rule that customers must have a Travel ID account to check in online on its website or app. The rule covers Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss and Discover. Travel ID is one login for all of the group’s digital platforms, and it is separate from Miles & More.
Rollout by departure point
| Effective date | Departures covered |
|---|---|
| Oct. 20, 2026 | Schengen countries, except Germany, Austria and Switzerland |
| Nov. 2, 2026 | Non-Schengen Europe; Germany (except Frankfurt and Munich); Austria; Switzerland (except Zurich) |
| Nov. 16, 2026 | USA, Canada and Mexico; Munich; Zurich |
| Nov. 30, 2026 | All other regions; Frankfurt |
Exceptions
You do not need a Travel ID for:
- check-in at an airport counter or kiosk
- tickets issued by another airline
- flights operated by another airline
What it means for non-revs
- If you plan to check in online for a Lufthansa Group flight from North America after Nov. 16, set up a Travel ID first. If you can’t, airport counter and kiosk check-in still work without one.
- The rule does not apply to tickets issued by another airline. How it applies to your own staff ticket depends on who issued it, so check with your pass bureau.
- Arrive with a little extra time while the system beds in. Counter queues may grow as travelers without accounts are sent there.
