October 1, 2026 — The strike by Vy train drivers in Norway is getting bigger. More drivers join on Monday, October 5, which will disrupt the Kongsvinger Line on top of the eastern and western routes already affected.
The details
- Who is striking: the Norwegian Locomotive Drivers’ Union (NLF), at Vy. The strike has been running since September 18. Vy’s conductors have settled their separate dispute.
- Escalation: from October 5, many drivers based in Kongsvinger join the strike, which hits the Kongsvinger Line.
- Lines affected through October 4:
- East: L1, L2, R12, R13, R14, R21, R22, R23, RE10, RE11, RE20, RE30/R31
- West: L4, R40, F4
- Cancellations: between about 5% and 82% of departures, depending on the line and the day.
- End date: none has been announced (TBA).
What it means for airline travelers
- Check Vy’s strike page before every rail trip in eastern Norway or on the western lines. The share of cancelled departures changes day by day.
- Book transport you can change. If you’re connecting between Oslo Airport and the city or a regional town, check whether your train is a Vy service. Allow extra time or plan a bus or taxi.
- Plan around the Kongsvinger Line from October 5. If you’re using it (toward the Swedish border), plan alternatives from that date.
- Refunds and rebooking: Vy’s strike page explains your options.
