October 2, 2026 — Update to our October 1 story. The flash flooding we flagged for Texas arrived on Thursday, stopping flights for a time at both Dallas airports. In the Pacific, Tropical Storm Nolo is strengthening west of the main Hawaiian Islands and Tropical Storm Choi-Wan is sitting north of the Mariana Islands. Pennsylvania has reported a fifth measles death.

Texas flooding

  • Thursday, October 1: heavy rain brought flash flood warnings, water rescues and power cuts to the Dallas–Fort Worth area. FOX 4 reported a ground stop and ground delays at DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field.
  • Now: the local flood watch ran until Friday morning. The national Weather Prediction Center’s outlook for October 2–3 tops out at its “Slight” risk category, a step down from earlier in the week.

Pacific storms

Storm Where (October 2) Forecast Warnings
Tropical Storm Nolo About 75 miles southwest of French Frigate Shoals, in the remote Northwestern Hawaiian Islands; winds 70 mph Hurricane later October 2; major hurricane by early Sunday, October 4 Tropical Storm Warning for the uninhabited Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument from Nihoa to Lisianski Island. None for the main Hawaiian Islands.
Tropical Storm Choi-Wan About 128 nautical miles north-northwest of Tinian, nearly stationary Expected to become a typhoon and move north, then northeast, over open ocean Status for Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota: TBA. Check the National Weather Service in Guam.

The Atlantic has no active tropical cyclones, the National Hurricane Center said on October 2.

Measles

Pennsylvania’s Department of Health confirmed a fifth measles-associated death on September 30. Yesterday we reported four. The state counts 943 cases in 39 counties, with 176 people hospitalized. The CDC’s national count, as of September 24, is 3,659 confirmed cases.

What it means for airline travelers

  • DFW and Love Field: Thursday’s ground stops left displaced passengers to rebook. Expect fuller flights through Dallas on Friday and into the weekend, and check loads before you list.
  • Hawaii: no warnings are in effect for Honolulu, Maui, Kauai or the Big Island. Keep an eye on Nolo’s forecast if you are traveling this weekend.
  • Guam and Saipan: check the National Weather Service in Guam and your airline before you fly.
  • Measles: the CDC advises travelers to be fully vaccinated. Ask your doctor if you are unsure of your status.
