October 4, 2026 — Update to our October 3 story. Thailand’s floods now affect more than 3.26 million people in 27 provinces and Bangkok, the disaster agency said Sunday. Forecasters expect heavy to very heavy rain through October 7 and more from October 8 to 13.
What changed
- Scale: 3.26 million people in 1.17 million households are affected, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said. Earlier reports this week put the figure at 2.6 million.
- Deaths: the agency’s Sunday report lists deaths by province, including Samut Prakan (8), Prachin Buri (7), Sa Kaeo (6) and Bangkok (4). We could not open an official national total for today.
- Where water is rising: the central region (Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri) and Chachoengsao. Levels are falling in the north and northeast.
- Forecast: heavy to very heavy rain October 4–7 across the north, northeast, central region including Bangkok, the east and the upper south. More rain is expected October 8–13 in the central, eastern and southern regions.
- Bangkok: the water agency rates the capital, Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani at minimal risk except in low-lying areas.
- Thai Airways: 1,092 delayed bags remained on Saturday night, with the backlog due to be cleared Sunday. The transport ministry restated compensation rules, including THB 1,500 for international delays over five hours.
We found nothing new on Eastern Line trains, on airport closures or on an extension of Thai Airways’ change-fee waiver. Those remain TBA.
What it means for airline travelers
- Checked bags: if you can travel carry-on only through Bangkok this week, do.
- Getting to the airport: allow extra time, especially from eastern and central provinces. Check road and rail status the same day.
- Standby: weather delays push confirmed passengers onto later flights. Keep a flexible return date.
- Day trips: Ayutthaya and riverside areas are seeing rising water. Check conditions before you go.
- Keep receipts for delay costs and file baggage claims before leaving the airport.
